Vice Minister Yu Kangzhen met with Director General of World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) Monique Eloit in Beijing on January 31. The two sides had a frank and in-depth exchange on cooperation for African swine fever (ASF) prevention and control.

 

Yu introduced measures adopted by China in pursuit of preventing and controlling of ASF to Eloit. According to Yu, the Chinese Government attaches great importance to ASF prevention and control and promptly adopts effective prevention and control measures. At the same time, the epidemic situation has been timely reported to international organizations such as OIE in accordance with the principle of openness and transparency. Currently the epidemic has been effectively brought under control. Yu also pointed out that the number of ASF outbreaks in China is declining, but various risk factors still exist in the area of ASF prevention and control. As a result, China will continue to make efforts with the aim of preventing and controlling ASF in a long run. Yu spoke highly of the important role played by OIE in global veterinary health, expressed gratitude to OIE for providing technical supports to China in ASF prevention and control, and hoped to further strengthen cooperation with international organizations such as OIE.

 

Dr. Eloit spoke highly of measures for ASF prevention and control taken by China. She pointed out that relevant facts and figures have fully proved that China's prevention and control  is pragmatic and effective, and the achievements are encouraging. Hence, she was confident in the prospect of China's prevention and control, and clearly stated that OIE will continue to support China. Dr. Eloit also appreciated that the Chinese government timely submitted the high-quality epidemic information in an open and transparent manner. Besides, China boasts sound and reasonable veterinary health system, and the coperation of the cross-department collaboration mechanism is effective. China made an accurate judgment on the epedemic prevention and control, and the timely adjustment and improvement of relevant measures was adopted. She also hoped that China will further strengthen international exchanges and cooperation in terms of ASF prevention and control under the Global Framework for the Progressive Control of Transboundary Animal Disease(GF-TADs) put forward by OIE and FAO.
